Tim Tebow Could Have Successful NFL Career Converting To Fullback

After signing Peyton Manning (former Indianapolis Colts QB), It only took the Denver Broncos 24 hours
to trade Tim Tebow to the New York Jets.

The traded involved sending Tim Tebow along with the Broncos’ 7th round pick to the New York Jets, in
exchange for the Jets’ 4th and 6th round picks in the upcoming 2012 NFL draft.

While Tebow is known as a dual threat QB (both rushing and passing the football), his unorthodox style
as an NFL quarterback has attracted a lot of attention: on one hand garnering unprecedented support
(“Tebowmania”), and on the other much criticism and attention from the sports media and fans alike.

During his rookie year (2010), Tebow started the last 3 regular season games for the Broncos; in 2011,
he took over the starting job (from struggling Kyle Orton) for the 1-4 Denver Broncos and led the team
to a seven game wins streak—resulting in the team’s first AFC West title and first playoff game since
2005.

Tim Tebow trade to the Jets had much to do with publicity for the city of New York rather than signing a
franchise QB (already has a billboard sign and a sandwich named after him).

Other than a publicity stunt or converting Tebow to another position, the trade doesn’t make sense.
Two weeks prior to the trade, the Jets signed Franchised QB Mark Sanchez to a 5-year $58 million
extension—and unless they are planning on throwing money down the drain, Mark Sanchez is going

to be the starting QB. If the Jets are thinking about playing Tebow as an option QB (which is to have
Sanchez as the starter and Tebow as an occasional option QB)—this has disaster written all over it, NFL
Teams will sniffed this out as quickly as a “hound following a blood trail.”

Why Tim Tebow will never be a great NFL Quarterback

While his unorthodox style may have worked in college earning him two Heisman Trophies, it will not
work in the NFL. Tebow never had to learn how to hold the ball properly because he has always had a
great offensive line. Nor has he had to learn how to throw the ball between tight spaces because he
played with great receivers who know how to get wide open—and if the pocket ever collapsed, because
of his enormous size he has never learned how to tuck the ball and slide—instead his instincts is to take-
off running and initiate contact first (as the saying goes “you can’t bend a tree when its old”).

And of course there is the curse of the Running Quarterback

Most running QBs don’t enjoy a long tenure in the NFL (with the exception of Ben Roethlisberger a.k.a.
Big Ben and Michael Vick).

Big Ben and Mike Vick are the exception to this rule because of two things—they both have excellent
foot work in the pock (including agility and escapeability) and a cannon for an arm—and it has already
been established that Tebow does not have foot-work in the pocket and the guy couldn’t throw a
football in the water if he was standing on a beach.

Not to take anything away from Tim Tebow—he has a great work ethic, is competitiveness, and loves to
win, but he will never be a success quarterback in the NFL.

Tim Tebow is popular (evident from Tebowmania”) however, popularity can only take him so far—it
can’t give him a cannon for an arm, nor can it make him a better pocket passer.

Tebow could have a successful NFL career converting to Fullback

He has all the attributes to be a successful fullback (has the size at 6’-3” 240 pounds)—similar to how
Mike Alstott (former Tampa Bay Buccaneers) transformed the position (blocking and carry the ball on
short yardage situations).

The guy is fearless, can take a hit and has the perfect size. On the other hand, his mechanics as a QB are
terrible—as the axiom goes “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”; and in a league where success is
90 percent speed and agility, there is not enough time to teach him the mechanics of how to hold the
football, stand upright in the pocket and throw the ball in tight spaces to receivers. (In his short career
as an NFL QB he is notorious for missing open receivers either because he over throws them or by short
hopping the football).

The New York Jets should do themselves a favor and convert Tebow to his natural position—which is
fullback, and have him block for running backs Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson.

Wow greg and Chris im appolled to say the least if you want a sports writer you should hire me at least i took a few English classes in college. Excuse the punctuation I’m writing on my cell phone. First off Timmy only won six in a row and it was only one heisman with two nominations. He will succeed as a starting QB in this league and NY also gave the broncos 5 million with those two picks for Tebow. He threw into tighter holes in college than the guy who traded him (john elway) maybe some classic gameday Florida gator footage should be in store for you two and maybe a little NFL Network wouldn’t hurt either. That’s enough of my Tebow ranting though so I’ll leave you to come u with some more facts for me to dispute and we’ll be back to the drawing board then too.

Yo Doug I hate to rain on you an Tebow’s parade. I completely agree with this blog – only reason why Tim Tebow got signed by the Jets is for publicity. If he wants to stick around in the NFL he better change position real quick cuz he will not survive as a NFL QB

Wow kid i love how you start a paragraph with YO that’s classic. Anyway I am an unbiased bronco fan how could a true football fan like watching a WR open by twenty yards for the TD get missed by a beach ball. That should sum it up for you with my stance on timmaaaay. However you would pay millions for his work ethic and if and if determination has anything to say about it he definitely will be a starting QB in this league. I have to agree this is a butts in seats thing with N.Y. but that’s only temporary he will have his offense in place one to three years from now somewhere else in the N.F.L. some ballsy owner or head coach will give him an opportunity and utilize him for what he’s good at and he will kill it again at QB he won’t be with the jets for long tho so. Thanks for taking the time to comment it’s all in god fun. Please keep the good debate coming…

Hey Doug Cook maybe the Oakland Raiders could pick up Tebow in a sign and trade next year–they will be looking for a QB–becuz he wouldn’t see any playing time in N.Y.
