Facebook is the Most Searched and Visited Website of 2011

Topics: , ,

When asked what would be the most visited website worldwide one would probably have to take a logical guess and say search engine giant “Google”. Personally my second guess would have to be Facebook, but it actually looks like the tables have turned, Facebook is the most visited website for the second year in the row for 2010 and 2011.

As far as the term “Facebook” being searched that comes into play for the third year in a row accounting for 3.1% of all searches for the 2011 year. Remember to take into account four variations of Facebook — Facebook, Facebook.com, Facebook Login and www.facebook.com — the social networking giant’s share of the top 50 searches was 3.48%, an increase of 33%. The four terms also appeared in the top 10:

1. Facebook
2. YouTube
3. Facebook Login
4. Craigslist
5. Facebook.com
6. Yahoo
7. eBay
8. www.facebook.com
9. Mapquest
10. Yahoo.com

When comparing just the homepage of Google.com to Facebook.com the social networking giant receives more visits and pageviews than Google, this is of course excluding Googles network of sites such as Gmail and YouTube.

Here are the rankings:

1. www.facebook.com
2. www.google.com
3. www.youtube.com
4. mail.yahoo.com
5. www.yahoo.com
6. www.bing.com
7. search.yahoo.com
8. www.gmail.com
9. mail.live.com
10. www.msn.com

We can easily see that all of these sites receive a lot of direct traffic and referrals from search engines.
