Topics: , , , ,

Today Google Celebrates with us the Doodle for today, at a glance you may have no idea what this logo is or even what it does, don’t worry I was the same way. This Friday celebrates Jim Henson’s 75th birthday, Jim Henson is the creator of the Muppets he brought entertainment and joy to many of us both young and old, he passed away in May of 1990.

I’m still trying to figure out if the doodle does anything or has some sort of secret behind it, occasionally I’ll play around with it and notice the logo displays his name, I was trying to look for any special or interesting things, most of the time Google Doodles will link to a search which is a bit different about this one.

Google Logo: Muppets

I’m pretty sure I am in love with these crazy little monsters, the faces they make just make me giggle.. I have probably been on the homepage of Google now for at least 10 or minutes trying to figure out if they do anything, so far I have been led to a search for Jim Henson’s name. If you guys happen to find anything interesting about today’s image please leave a comment and share with the rest of us, if not leave your feedback on what you think about today’s little Google Doodle in honor of Jim Henson.

Also I just happened to notice this, when you right click and choose: View background image you get this, I’m wondering if the colored hands are some sort of sequence, I’m still trying to figure out if it does anything, if not maybe I’m just wasting my time, either way it’s still pretty interesting.

A Little About Jim Henson: Happy 75th Birthday!

Jim Henson 75

Jim Henson was born in 1936 and is best known from what we all know as “The Muppets”. Jim passed away in 1990 from Streptococcus pyogenes (organ failure due to bacteria). He performed in various television programs from Sesame Street and of course The Muppet Show.

Born and raised in Mississippi he is one of the most well known puppeteers in American History. To date many of us young and old enjoy the Muppets, while they may seem like it’s a show just for kids I know many adults who enjoy some of The Muppets classics, you are probably most familiar with characters like Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, there are quite a few to name.

Today Google as well as myself celebrate Jim Hensons 75th birthday to dedicating his life to making other people happy, and for that we thank you Jim. Enjoy the Doodle!

    • Thanks, I did manage to figure that out Lol.. Do you have any idea if the logo does anything special, any secrets or anything?

    • to make the red one eat the green one, click directly over the green one so he is straight on. then move you mouse so he is looking directly to your left (his right) and click. The red one will come up and eat the green one.

  1. i managed to make (i think it was my doing) the red one at the right, eat the green one beside it. Not a clue how it happened thouth.

  2. For the background image, it’s just the 6 active buttons and the 6 inactive buttons I think.

If you’ve selected a character, it will follow the mouse. If you click on the character you’ve selected, it will do its mouth movements.

I’ve only seen the Jim Henson info pop up once – and yep, yep, yep, yep, yep when i clicked on the image i expected it to take me to an explanation!

  3. if you keep clicking on the characters, and i mean continuously, they eventually do something (ie flip up glasses, red eats green) other than that, it’s pretty interactive-less. but still, i love google logo’s, so i’m impressed.

  4. is it true that if you make the red guy open his mouth and look at the green guy, hell eat it?i want to know how to do it!i have done it before randomly.

  5. ugh the only thing i found out of this is that if you click on eye glass guy move mouse up and down then click then it will throw its eye glasses up in the air….and with the red guy at the end keep him looking at the green guy for a while and probably click a few times it will gobble him up and vomit him back

  6. when you type in the serach bar the images mouths open to the speed of the letters and the glasses can fly off the red one. you can move the images with the mouse and the keys simultaneously. the red one at the end eats the green and thats about all ive found.

  7. I think the red-eating-green thing just happens randomly anyway if left long enough, but all you need to do to make it happen on command is make the red guy look at the green guy and wait a few seconds, doesn’t matter if his mouth’s open.

Also, the pink guy’s glasses will fly off if you just keep his mouth open for a while, no need to move anywhere.

    Not found anything else.

  8. you don’t have to do anything to let the red guy lose his glasses or to make the red one eat the green one.
it’s totally enough if you just click on the red one and wait for a few seconds – not doing anything but wait. same with the green and the red one. here it doesn’t even matter which one of the two you click on. just wait and see.

  9. “Also I just happened to notice this, when you right click and choose: View background image you get this, I’m wondering if the colored hands are some sort of sequence, I’m still trying to figure out if it does anything, if not maybe I’m just wasting my time, either way it’s still pretty interesting.”

The background image is a css sprite with all the state of the hand buttons. It’s just a technique web developers use to speed up loading time by sending less HTTP requests for images. There isn’t anything significant about it.

  10. okay so basically i’ve decided what it does is it watches you type into the search bar, assuming the pointer is already on the search bar, and moves its mouth as you type words, as if it’s “reading” it. When you backspace for certain characters, like the one with glasses or the red one or long green one, they will do special things.

  11. You don’t have to be clicked on the red monster for him to eat the green guy… I was messing with the green monster for funsies when the red monster just ate him for no reason. I don’t think the other monsters do anything, the whole doodle was simple meant so you could do your own digital puppet show.
