Change Your Facebook Profile to The New Timeline Layout

Changes… So many changes on Facebook, where should we start? First of all this post will show you how to create your very own timeline profile or at least set it up. If you want to know more about the Timeline features check that out here.

The estimated time to set this up is less then 5 minutes, when you’re done you can either be bragging to your friends on how much you like the new design or maybe you won’t? That’s up to you, leave your thoughts and opinions below, I would like to hear what you guys think about all the Facebook changes, and more specifically leave any remarks related to the FB timeline. Enjoy the post!

You read the title correctly, you can change your Facebook profile into the new Timeline Layout that Facebook has been bragging about, do you to see for yourself or test drive it now? Well you can, in fact you can see everything you will and won’t like about it, follow these directions or video below and we will show you how:

1. Get the Developer Facebook app.

Type “Developer” into the Facebook search bar and click on the first result. Click “Allow.” Now you’re a developer.

2. In the top righthand corner of the Developer app, click on the “+ Create New App” button

Fill out the App display name and description. (Just make something up or type gibberish; this won’t actually create an app that will be visible).

Note: If you get a failed message, keep trying a different name  in either of the two fields.

3. Agree to the Developer privacy agreement.

You should have a verified Facebook account which means at one point or another you have confirmed your account with your mobile phone, if not do this now. It may still let you continue, but if it does give you any errors that is why.

4. Find the “Open Graph”

Located on the left sidebar and type in a test verb and noun for your new app. So for example you could use: read a book, watch a movie… anything really works!

First: Click Open Graph located over the left:

Second: Pick a verb and noun, anything will really do here. If you aren’t sure just use the was as shown in the example

5. Run through a few pages of new app information.

No need to enter anything here, just keep on saving changes and continuing.

 

Skip and Go Down to Save Changes

Keep Clicking Save Changes and Next on all three screens that appear, it may take a second be patient as it loads.

After you finish with the Save Changes and Next Process go back to your profile, you can leave the developer center.

6.Get It Now!

You should get an invite when you go to your profile, if it’s not there right away wait 5-10 minutes. Enjoy!

Click On your name first in order to get your name, this will take you to your wall and posts, it did appear right away for me, if it doesn’t for you wait 5-1o minutes, if still nothing logout of Facebook close your browser and re-open to start a new session.

Changing Back From Timeline to Classic:

UPDATE: If you decide afterward that you don’t want the new timeline for any reason, it’s very easy to revert back. Go back into your “Developer” page and click “Edit App.” This will bring up a sidebar on the left side of your page. Click “Delete App.” After you do this, your profile should be reverted back to the original.]

This is option one and is obviously not for everyone. Option two is to sign up for beta notification right here. When Facebook is ready for users to test out the new profile, you will be emailed and get to try out before all of your friends.

And voila! Those are two ways that you can get the new Facebook profile immediately, if you’re desperate for the change.

    • go onto someone who already has timeline, and at the top it will give you the option to try it out, click on it and start editing! If you want the few days trial, choose that option, but if you want it straight away, just save what you’ve done and bingo!

I am now using the preview version of the New Facebook…..the instructions were simple , no time at all….when I got to the reveal, it was a bit scary not knowing what I might have gotten into……but I love it….it will be challenging for some, but I have been using it now for a few hours and pretty much have the hang of it…..I do love the going back in time….reading old posts…comments., so ….on saying all this, I assumed like alot of people oh no, I am leaving facebook…….but I say…oh yeah, I love the new facebook…..thanks…:)

    • I’m pleased that this was useful for you! I am very much enjoying the new profile myself, I honestly like this great change, probably one of the only Facebook changes I have been satisfied with. The official release is October 4th, Facebook will be getting a new makeover! :)

      • When I published my profile into facebook timeline, It said that the public release will be on October 1, when I came here it says October 4 and another page said October 6.

        So when will be the official public release of facebook timeline?

    • I havent yet got it, just researching into it. Does facebook rememeber old posts or do you have to input them yourself, im a little confused about it all!
      Also if i dont like it is it easy to revert back?

  7. Wow, I really was looking forward to this but unfortunately did not like it all. I’m using a fairly new computer, about a year old and the new timeline really bogged my system down.. I think if Facebook really wants to stay on top they should listen to what the public wants, simplicity…

  8. You have to have a verified account to do this, so be prepared to give them your phone # or CC # if you have not yet done so.

  11. What happened to the makeover? I for one did not like timeline profile.. It’s really no fun having to look at your posts in jumbled columns. It’s even harder if happen to play one or more of the games and need to visit other’s profiles to click on things for your game. I figured out how to get my old facebook back and am so glad to have it. What a relief. Now if only I could get the old news feed back so I could sort feed things by status updaates or games, etc. Oh well, can’t complain because it’s free but wonder why they want to change things for the worst.

  29. if this steps don’t help you, just go to facebook, then at the search bar, type Timeline . choose the Timeline by Facebook .

  52. I got Timeline, but I got it when I went on my friend’s account (who had timeline before me) where it said “Learn more about Timeline” so I got it through there. Thanks to the fact that I didn’t get it through the Developper App, is it still possible to get Classic again?

    I REALLY want it back if you can help me that’d be great. :)

  59. Thx mate for helpin’ out…however the easiest way is to just type ‘introducing timeline’ in the search field…n click ‘get timeline’ n then choose whether u need it now or after a trial period…!

Not that this is an intelligent move, to force people into less and less privacy and human rights, but I guess I will make the move now, so that I can get going on that “try to keep facebook from actively advertising how many hairs are on my……… well yeah…” before it becomes absolutely MANDATORY………………….   86. the steps to update my profile on facebook didnt work. Very disappoiunting because i would like to enjoy the new updated profile facebook has but it never asked me to get the new profileand so i am trying so many different wayt to get it and still unsuccessful.

  103. It’s just too hard to follow, try this:

    Search “Timeline” click the first one that publish by Facebook.
    At the bottom you’ll see “Get Timeline” click it
    Then continue as the instruction.

    It’s much more easy…

    I just made the steps on this timeline guide, but it won’t show me nothing.
    when i click on my picture i go to my wall and post but, its the same and the invitation isn’t there.
    also i can’t see and didn’t get that window to “get it now”.
    why is that? can someone tell me what did i do wrong?

  110. when you have a successful thing that everybody likes what do you do? You change it, of course, maybe even force them to take it or leave it. Is this timeline format going to be mandatory? I am just now learning how to work the old facebook so they go and change it and I have to learn it all over again? Did I read that right that all of our old comments will be on our timeline? Can we delete any of them? Coca Cola had a successful formula then one day some bright guy decided that a new formula would be better. When the people rejected it they had to change it back to the original successful formula.

  120. In the getting started with open graph page, i typed a verb and a noun like ”read and book” but there was error ”oops . some problem occured we are trying to fix it.” but it never gets fixed….what shud i do…??

  125. timeline is cool,but, i changed my profile a couple days ago,now i want to change it back,seemed so esy the other day, but now i cannot remember how i did. i clicked on edit my profile pic, it only pulls up one pic,and i have lots, buteven if wanted to use the one i ahave tried everything with no success. can you please help me with this matter? thank you

  136. I do NOT like the new timeline. The other day I was viewing my profile and it showed the timeline layout. I thought it was an option if you wanted to switch. I have not chosen to swithch but apparently facebook is doing this for me. Why is facebook forcing us to use a profile layout that we don’t want? Right now the timeline profile is only visible to me but will automatically be visible to everyone else on March 31, 2012 without me doing anything. Is there a way to stop this?
